Curated by Valentino Catricalà, Unfolded Ways. Rome as Never Read Before is a visual and literary itinerary unfolding across 25 chapters, where photography, literature and contemporary art converge to offer a renewed image of Rome.

The journey is punctuated by a tapestry of original narrative texts and literary fragments drawn from diverse periods and geographies. These writings accompany the reader in a rediscovery of the city, offering new perspectives through which to view it, and weaving an unprecedented dialogue between the written word and the image.

Within the volume, twenty-five works by as many international artists – Franco Angeli, José Angelino, Matteo Basilé, Elisabetta Benassi, Silvia Camporesi, Paolo Canevari, Gea Casolaro, Christo, Iginio De Luca, Rä di Martino, Tano Festa, Bill Fontana, Nancy Genn, Auriea Harvey, Anaïs Horn, H.H. Lim, Renato Mambor, Vincenzo Marsiglia, Mimmo Paladino, Vettor Pisani, Quayola, Marinella Senatore, Federico Solmi, Mauro Staccioli and Helen Tóth – offer a visual reading of the city through experimental aesthetics and previously unseen urban narratives.

The volume also features an original project by the collective Squary Eyes, who present Red Theatre: a sculptural work composed of 25 paper theatres, each reproducing at a 1:100 scale the stage dimensions of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Selected fragments of this piece are embedded within the book, giving life to a pop, surreal, paper-built universe in which the city comes alive like an urban fairytale.
