A Tribute to the Equestrian World

The Golden Horses volume is a tribute to the equestrian world and explores the relationship between these wonderful animals and man on account of poems and legends.

If there is one animal that has uniquely embodied the bond between humans and nature—in an ancestral and almost mystical symbiosis—it is undoubtedly the horse.

Since prehistoric times, this majestic creature has been at the heart of tales, cave paintings, myths, wars, and novels. It features prominently in ancient literature, in the diaries of emperors, and in the works of great writers. The horse has long symbolised strength, nobility, loyalty, and freedom.

From this understanding comes The Golden Horses—a book entirely handcrafted and published in only 99 numbered copies, designed to celebrate the horse and its eternal bond with humankind.

Each page is printed on 220 gsm artisan paper and sewn by hand on wooden frames using ancient Italian medieval bookbinding techniques. The red leather covers, lined in fine silk. Two copper and 24-karat gold sculptures form the front and back covers.

On the front cover, a single horse is sculpted; on the back, three. But when placed side by side, they form a single composition: four racing horses—the Arabian, Akhal-Teke, American Mustang, and Viennese Lipizzaner—engaged in an ideal contest representing the variety and elegance of historic horse breeds. The proportions are such that it is impossible to tell which is first: a symbolic choice that celebrates the uniqueness of each.

The Golden Horses presents the various breeds through a scientific, historical, legendary, and artistic lens, organising them geographically—starting in Africa, where the horse originated, and tracing its spread through migratory movements across the globe.

Each breed is introduced through original historical accounts. Among the most moving is a diary entry from Napoleon, where the Emperor lovingly describes his Arabian horse—a companion he considered more loyal than his generals: short, swift, tireless, and brave—always leading the way, ahead of everyone.

The Golden Horses is a collector’s art book, a refined cultural and symbolic portrait of humanity through its most noble companion—uniting visual storytelling, historical research, and the excellence of Italian craftsmanship.
