D'ORO Collection Brings the Art of the Book to Historic Libreria Bocca in Milan
On Monday, June 29, D'ORO Collection brought the art of the book to the heart of Milan with "The Art of the Book: Between History and the Future", an event hosted by the historic Libreria Bocca in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
The event featured Salvatore Giorgio Dino, Founder & CEO of D'ORO Collection, Barbara Fischer, Managing Director, and Livio Alimandi, Master Craftsman of the D'ORO Collection Atelier. Welcoming guests was Giorgio Lodetti, bookseller, publisher, and current custodian of Libreria Bocca, the oldest bookstore in Italy still operating from its original location and, for more than 250 years, a landmark institution in the fields of art, culture, and publishing.
Throughout the event, guests were introduced to some of D'ORO Collection's most representative works, discovering the creative journey that transforms a book into a handcrafted work of art. Each volume is the result of editorial vision, artistic research, and traditional craftsmanship, with every stage of production carried out by hand within the D'ORO Collection Atelier.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the live demonstration of traditional hand bookbinding by Livio Alimandi, who showcased some of the manual techniques that define every D'ORO Collection volume. The demonstration offered visitors a rare opportunity to witness a craft that has been passed down through generations and continues to play a vital role in the creation of works designed to endure over time.
Hosting the event at Libreria Bocca carried profound symbolic significance. Founded in 1775, the bookstore is one of Italy's most prestigious cultural institutions and has long served as a meeting point for publishing, art, and contemporary thought, preserving a tradition that spans more than two centuries.
The event also offered an opportunity to reflect on the role of the book not only as a vehicle of knowledge, but as a cultural object capable of preserving memory, identity, and values.
